Suparmo, salah satu warga Desa Balepanjang,Kec.Baturetno, Kab.Wonogiri, ternyata memiliki keterampilan tatah sungging, utamanya membuat wayang kulit, karawitan, dan mendalang.
Ia mengaku, keterampilan tatah sungging dan nabuh gamelan di dapat dari Ki Tayat Cermo Carito, seorang dalang wayang kulit di Desa Baturetno, Kec.Baturetno, Kab.Wonogiri.
Suparmo, belajar tatah sungging sejak usia belasan tahun. Hasil karyanya banyak dipesan oleh para dalang, baik dalang lokal, atau dalang kondang bertaraf nasional.
Kecuali dipesan para dalang, wayang buatan Suparmo juga dipesan para pejabat, dari berbagai daerah, seperti; Solo, Semarang, Jakarta, Palembang, dan Sitiung, Sumatra.
Harga wayang sangat berfariasi, dari harga 400 ribu hingga jutaan rupiah, tergantung tingkat kesulitan, dan bahannya.
Bahan baku pembuatan wayang kulit, berasal dari kulit kerbau,dan sapi. Sedangkan lukisan dinding bergambar tokoh wayang, dibuat dari kulit kambing, berbingkai kayu ukir. Pencurit ( gapit wayang ), alat sungging, dipesan dari Solo, Semarang, bahkan ada yang dari Kalimantan.
Seniman berusia 70 tahun ini masih tekun menggeluti tatah sungging. Menurutnya, situasi pandemi corona sangat mempengaruhi pemasaran hasil karyanya, sehingga penghasilan turun dari biasanya. Namun demikian, pesanan tetap masih ada. Dalam satu bulan ia masih bisa menjual 2 sampai 4 wayang.
Suparmo tak hanya mampu membuat wayang, namun juga mahir memainkan instrumen gamelan jenis gender, ( Jw : penggender ), dan juga piawai mendalang.
Suparno, mendapat ilmu tatah sungging dan menggender, dari Ki Tayat Cermocarito, dalang wayang kulit dari Desa Baturetno, Kecamatan Baturetno, Kabupaten Wonogiri.
Sedangkan keterampilan mendalang diperoleh dari Ki Suyatno, guru dalang wayang kulit dari Mangkunegaran, Solo,
Ketika inspirasiline.com menyambangi tempat tinggal Suparmo di Balepanjang, Baturetno, Wonogiri, ia sedang asyik mengerjakan tatah sungging. Di rumahnya, terdapat beberapa wayang pesanan yang siap dikirim, di antaranya tokoh wayang ; Narodo, Bromo, Abimanyu, Anoman, cakil, dan lukisan Batara Kamajaya bersama Batari Ratih.
Usut punya usut, ternyata Suparmo masih keturunan dalang.
Ayahnya bernama Ki Guna Carito, seorang dalang kondang pada zamanya, bertempat tinggal di Desa Turirejo, Eromoko, Wonogiri.
Kemampuan Suparmo banyak dikenal masyarakat seantero Kabupaten Wonogiri. Suparmo, sering mengiringi pentas wayang kulit dalang- dalang kondang seperti ; Almarhum Ki Warseno, yang dikenal dalang kera (Talunombo, Baturetno ) Ki Cermo Carito, Ki Purbo Asmoro ( Solo ) Ki Eko Sunarsono, Ki Sahir. Ia berperan sebagai penggender, salah satu instrumen gamelan yang amat penting dalam iringan wayang purwa.
