Barikan merupakan tradisi turun-temurun di masyarakat Pantai Utara (Pantura) Jawa, khususnya di Kecamatan Kaliwungu, Kabupaten Kendal. Tradisi ini mengajarkan manusia untuk saling mempererat tali silaturahim antarwarga. Apa makna dan manfaat religi dari tradisi ini?
MENYAMBUT Tahun Baru Islam 1442 Hijriyah, warga Jalan Mutiara Raya RT 2/RW 12 Desa Krajankulon, Kecamatan Kaliwungu, Kabupaten Kendal menggelar barikan secara lesehan di halaman depan Musala Baitul Muttaqin, Jumat (28/8/2020). Acara dimulai selepas isya, sekira pukul 20.00 hingga tuntas sejam kemudian.
Rangkaian tradisi barikan yang digelar di malam 10 Muharram (Lebaran Suro) ini diawali dengan shalawatan dan istighotsah yang dipimpin Ustaz Muhammad Subkhan. Tak hanya itu, ustaz di lingkungan setempat ini juga menyampaikan tausiyah seputar sejarah barikan dan kisah ketaatan para Nabi.
“Semoga dengan barikan ini, kita bisa senantiasa bersyukur atas nikmat Allah serta terus melanggengkan tali silaturahim antarwarga atau tetangga, sehingga terjalin ukhuwah islamiyah yang indah,” kata Muhammad Subkhan melalui mikrofon musala.
Setelah dipungkasi dengan doa penutup, barikan sampai pada puncaknya: menikmati sajian nasi tumpeng dan ingkung (ayam kampung yang dimasak utuh), serta aneka makanan, minuman, dan buah-buahan yang disajikan di atas gelaran tikar. Warga, terutama anak-anak langsung merangsek mengambil sendiri-sendiri makanan kesukaan mereka.
Selain Ketua RT 2 Khofidin dan Ketua PKK RT 2 Ny Nenny Roma, barikan warga Mutiara Raya ini juga dihadiri Ketua RW 12 Sami’an dan Ustaz Iskandar dari RT 1.
“Saya salut dengan warga RT 2. Hampir setiap ada peringatan hari-hari besar nasional dan keagamaan, selalu menggelar acara secara meriah. Sajian makanannya pun selalu berlimpah dan enak-enak. Mudah-mudahan ini menjadi keberkahan tersendiri bagi warganya,” tutur Ketua RW 12 Sami’an.

Barikan merupakan tradisi yang digelar sebagai ungkapan rasa syukur kepada Allah atas nikmat yang telah diberikan, utamanya menyambut Tahun Baru Hijriyah (Muharram) atau Suro (Jawa). Barikan berasal dari bahasa Arab baro’ah yang berarti berkah.

Tradisi barikan biasanya digelar di jalan-jalan kampung, terutama di perempatan jalan, menyimbolkan penangkalan musibah atau tolak bala.
Di acara yang dimulai selepas isya ini, warga saling berdatangan dengan membawa makanan berupa berkat dan bisa juga nasi tumpeng. Lalu makanan tersebut dikumpulkan menjadi satu di tempat kegiatan. Sebelum acara dimulai, warga yang sudah berkumpul saling membaca shalawat, sambil menunggu datangnya warga yang lain.
Tradisi barikan memiliki fungsi religi, yaitu untuk menghormati leluhur, serta sebagai sarana untuk mendapat keselamatan dalam hidup.***
